Best of 2017: Dark and Moody Interiors

If there was one home trend that seemed to loom larger than others this year, it was the move toward dark and moody interiors. From matte black rooms and navy blue walls to charcoal grays and all shades of dark green and peacock blue, home owners and renters weren’t afraid to embrace darker colors in a big way. Today we’re sharing 15 of our favorite home tours that prove why deeper, darker colors can be a beautiful and welcoming choice. xo, Grace

Image above: This Arizona home had my favorite bedroom of the entire year. This gorgeous peacock blue wall against a warm terra-cotta rug and a rattan bed was an amazing combo.

This English home showcased the power of black paint in several rooms. All of the warm textiles and glittery light made the space feel dreamy and warm.

This Notting Hill home used black paint on the walls and floors to create a comforting oasis in the city.

We all fell for this Midwestern home’s matte black exterior makeover.

This Welsh home taught us more about how design can be more accessible to home owners with different abilities. It also taught us how to use black paint boldly and with bright accents of red and yellow.

This Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn apartment accented its dark walls with colorful textiles in the form of an antique rug and a textured wall hanging.

Shavonda and Naomi’s California home (top two photos) was an incredible mix of deep blue, charcoal and matte black paint. The pops of purple accented each room beautifully and their family photos warmed my heart to no end.

This mix of moody blues in this Jerusalem rental stole my heart. I love the way all the dark walls were offset by soft neutral textiles.

This Dallas home featured one of my favorite paint colors of the year, “Deep Sea Dive” from Sherwin Williams.

This Los Angeles bedroom makeover used a rich, navy blue paint and navy blue detailing to perk up a special space.

This historic home’s makeover included a gorgeous, deep green wall in the master bedroom.

This Pittsburgh flower shop used a great grey paint color to highlight a moving quotation and colorful candles.

The deep green bedroom in this Texas home is accented by a beautiful macrame wall hanging and a warm shaggy rug.

This West Texas home used patterned wallpaper to accent matte black walls beneath a chair railing. We love all the gold detailing that warmed up the darker paint colors.

This kitchen makeover used dark green paint and charcoal-colored pendant lights to add depth to the space.
