Best of 2017: Business Advice + Empowerment

2017 was a year of ups and downs, but through it all, our business and motivational contributors kept us going and holding our heads high. From posts about female-led studios to advice on starting a new career, these posts will give you the confidence you need to take a leap and follow your dreams, at work and at home. –Grace

Adam JK‘s heartfelt, honest and seriously funny posts got me through 2017 in a huge way. From tips on working with friends to starting over again, his handwritten life and business pieces were overflowing with heart — and sage advice.

You know flat lays, the trend that’s been sweeping the online world? Well this year we learned the origin of that style — and how it’s tied to one of the most famous women in business/design history.

Ready to try something new and don’t have time to make the change gradually? Magalie Rene-Hayes walked us through the process of transitioning quickly this year.

Our studio tour with Sarah Marriage and the entire team at Workshop of Our Own (WOO) was one of my favorite posts of the whole year. This studio teaches woodworking (and empowers) women and GNC people in Baltimore.

Becky Simpson created an amazing range of helpful workflow charts to help you through navigating the tricky back and forth of work/life balance.

This year we started focusing more on businesses run by entrepreneurs of color, especially women. This roundup of beauty companies run by (and for) women of color was one of my favorite examples.
