For the Love of Labels + Links

Growing up, I used to love looking at clothing labels. Not because of any perceived caché the brands had, but because they felt like the perfect tiny moments of type and design coming together. I didn’t realize that what I was loving was graphic design until much later, when my Dad (who worked in advertising at the time), would bring home copies of Ad Week and Communication Arts for me to check outSeeing all that trade talk about logo evolutions and branding made me understand why I loved those little labels so much– they were the hard work and great design of a team of designers.

Spoiler alert: I didn’t go into graphic design, but I do still love looking at labels and logos on a regular basis, and hunting for feeds and sites that celebrate them. I’m especially drawn to vintage logos because they had such a sense of expressiveness, whimsy and character that today’s web and mobile-friendly designs don’t alway shave. So I was really excited to stumble across the For the Love of The Label feed on Instagram.  The feed is the work of designer Priyanka from Darlin’ (her own label is an awesome throwback to designs of earlier days) and I love seeing her collect vintage and antique clothing to catalog great type and design. Click here to check out more of her collections online or scroll down to see my favorites (that old gap logo!) below. Until next week, have a great weekend and enjoy some of our favorite reads from around the web below! xo, Grace

Pattern Heaven: The pattern-on-pattern awesomeness in this home at Desire to Inspire is heavenly.

Modern meets Rural: This Australian home at Design Files is stunning. I love the brick and wood combo on the patio outside.

Cabana Sands: The pink and green color scheme happening in this California restaurant design is SO good.

Connecticut Treehouse: This eclectic apartment on Man Repeller is so lovely and full of amazing decorative details.

Mental Health: This personal essay about mental health at MR was incredible. I am so happy to see people discussing this more openly. “Personal help wasn’t enough. I had to be naked in the moment and say, “I can’t do that by myself.”

Pink and Magenta: I am so into pale pink combined with cranberry and magenta hues right now. This bedroom at SFGirlbyBay has such great examples of that palette.
