Elias Notafraid + Best of the Web

Lately I’ve been doing a lot of reading about indigenous beadwork traditions. In the process of digging deeper to learn more about contemporary indigenous artists, it’s been wonderful to discover so many young artists who are bridging the worlds of traditional and more modern design. One artist who caught my eye this week, via the feed of Jamie Okuma, is Elias Notafraid. Elias is based in Arizona and does incredible bead and feather work that has a decidedly contemporary spin. These pieces above and below are my favorite, but you can check out more of Elias’ work online right here. Until Monday, have a great weekend! xo, Grace

YES, Terrazzo: I had no idea I liked Terrazzo flooring until I saw this article at Curbed. I’d only ever seen the style with mostly uniformly tiny-sized pieces (which always feels very “cold 60s office building” to me), but then I saw these chunky, uneven pieces and fell head over heels. BIG YESSS to this flooring.

Work work work work work: In beauty design news, have you seen Fenty’s summer collection? These shimmers! They are heavenly.

Rose Paradise: Betsy Johnson’s home is every bit as magical and clutter-wonderful as I imagined it to be. Check out the full tour here.

Listen Up: In non-design news, In the Thick is my new (to me) favorite podcast. It’s news from the perspective of POC journalists and they focus on news and angles we’re not necessarily hearing in mainstream news outlets. It’s incredible and personal and so important. Hope you can listen and support Futuro Media (They also produce Latino USA).

Paint it Black: Shavonda’s dining room evolution has been a joy to watch online. I am loving this all-black style with hints of natural basket weave mixed in.
