Even though the flowers outside have left us to make room for fall leaves, you can still create some top-notch florals for your table by incorporating foraged pieces and even some fruits and vegetables. These two flower arrangements are perfect for holiday entertaining or just to exercise your creative muscles to bring a little brightness into your home as the season continues to transition.
Kiana Underwood of Tulipina created the beautiful arrangement below from leftovers in her San Francisco garden (yes, those are tomatoes!), leaves from her yard and a few choice flowers. You can recreate a similar one with cuttings from your surroundings and some seasonal mums from the grocery. If you’re a city dweller, substitute eucalyptus if fall foliage isn’t available and look for rich, autumn-toned flowers to add to the mix.
Hop over here to see how Kiana built her arrangement layer by layer. It’s a great flower arranging how-to for your entertaining repertoire!

Next up, Studio Choo turns oversized carrots into vessels for a bevy of yellow and orange blooms. You can easily make a few of these for your table with standard-sized carrots. Cluster them together and elevate some by setting them on top of colorful upside-down thrifted tea cups or short Ball jars for a more substantial look and feel. You can also keep an eye out for the monster-sized yams or sweet potatoes to help you replicate an arrangement closer to the one seen below in the last image. Quick directions below!
- Once you’ve found your root vegetables, cut holes and scoop away the center deep enough for some short stems to stand.
- Rubber-band a small group of flowers together and cut them short enough to rest in the carrot hole.
- Once the first bunch is firmly in place you can add in some smaller individual flowers and berry sprigs to fill out along the edges.
- Check the water level frequently, noting that the arrangement will look good for about three days if you’re making it for a holiday gathering.
Take these two arrangements as inspiration to bring some autumn color to your home!
