Before & After: A Bedroom Goes From a Bare Space to a Serene Escape

Just twenty minutes from downtown Tampa, in a community called Lutz, sits the home of Becky and Mike Daly, affectionally the subject of their home blog, Daly Digs. After working a government job for ten years, Becky decided to leave that life behind and start documenting the home renovations that she and Mike work on together. After a long and painful closing on their home that left them living out of suitcases and hotel hopping, they started the process of making over their home almost immediately. From replacing boarded up windows to tearing out carpet to replacing all the floors, the home, which had sat vacant for a few years, finally saw new life, courtesy of the Daly’s.

The most challenging part of the room was the huge wall of windows.

Working room by room, Becky and Mike got started on the guest bedroom once the living room and dining room were complete. “The most challenging part of the room was the huge wall of windows. Not only was it a lot of work to paint all of the trim, it was difficult deciding whether or not to continue the wallpaper to that wall. Ultimately I decided against it since I would have needed to invest in several more rolls of wallpaper, most of which would have been cut out for the windows. Instead, we painted matched the wallpaper and used the custom paint color on the wall of the windows,” shared Becky, regarding challenges faces during the guest room renovations.

Image above: “We have a lot of art in our home that we collect on our travels and I considered bringing in a piece from our collection to hang above the bed, but I fell in love with this buffalo print from the Animal Print Shop. The macramé hanging was a Home Goods score and my eyes lit up when I saw it,” said Becky.
