So many of my childhood memories revolve around my parents’ dining room. It’s played host to all four of us kids’ high school and college graduation dinners, 15 years worth of Christmas breakfasts, and every birthday of mine since I was 13. Painted in a rich cranberry color, the room has become a symbol for laughter and bonding, and a place where both sides of my family have cried tears of joy and sadness. That being said, I’m never surprised when other homeowners gush over how important their dining room has been to them, too. Over time, their spaces have gathered more and more memories, each one becoming permanently etched in the grain of a wooden table or the cushion of a chair.
