“Transparency in style, motherhood & home.” This is Alex Evjen’s tagline on her Instagram profile, and after a few clicks, you’ll see why. Alex runs the blog Ave Styles and creates digital content for major brands, but most importantly, she’s focused on balancing style and substance.
When Alex posts about motherhood, she beams with love for her kids and openly discusses the challenges that happen on a daily basis (that diaper leaked where?!). When she speaks about home, she not only invites viewers to see her creativity come to life, but to discuss all the ups and downs that occur when life doesn’t go according to plan. She’s vulnerable, relatable, inspiring, and now I find myself quoting her and wanting to replicate her guest bedroom.
A lover of the desert, Alex calls Arizona home. She chose Chandler, a suburb of Phoenix, for what it offered her children: good schools, parks, and activities. “We chose this house because of how homey it felt. Though it wasn’t our style [initially], I knew we would be able to transform it into a place that felt like our own.”
“I love mid-century design, but in a traditional-style home, I knew I had to make the two styles come together. I find textiles and home accents really help bridge the gap.” Once a palace of beige, today Alex’s home is her desert sanctuary, a canvas for her creativity, a forever home, and a place where she and her children can revel in each other’s company and face life’s challenges together. —Quelcy

Image Above: Alex says her bedroom is a place where she can feel like she’s on vacation. “I’ve always wanted the place where I sleep to feel like I’m sleeping in a fancy hotel.”
