This weekend Julia and I are heading down to Miami for a quick dose of sunny weather before both of us hit the road for book and magazine tours (stay tuned for our DS dates next week!). I’m always so inspired by the vibrant colors in Miami, and I’ve been looking for more of that online this past week. So I was thrilled to come across a great piece in Out Magazine about artist Jordan Nassar.
Jordan’s incredible and colorful embroidery work addresses the “intersection of craft, language, history, (geo)politics, and technology.” Through color, pattern, and stitches, Jordan looks at his identity as a Palestinian-American and explores the ways cultures blend, overlap and inform each other. I’m hoping to find a place to see his work in person soon (lists of current shows are here), but until then, I wanted to end this week with these beautiful pieces and all of the landscapes and cultural history they evoke. Until Monday, have a wonderful weekend and enjoy some of our favorite stories from around the web this week in the links below! xo, Grace
Just be Kind: “Be kind. The benefits of being kind — or at the very least courteous — far outweigh the effort you put in.” What 50-year-olds know that 20-year-olds often don’t.
Fireplace Love: I can’t get enough of this townhouse tour and the way that the horns make this fireplace look like it has a mustache.
Hire Me: The best way to pitch yourself for a job. Some great advice here. Basically: keep it brief and be specific.
Cat Squared: This cat has a print of a cat on its back! I love this.
Room with a View: This living room’s view. No words. Just go check it out.
Inked: This piece about how tattoos are all about change felt spot-on to me. All of the tattoos I have were about marking and honoring moments of seismic shift and change in my life.
Short and Sweet: I love this Australian cottage that’s small but sweet and super modern.
