14 Black-Owned Etsy Shops to Celebrate

Our team is working on longer-form history posts about incredible Black designers, artists and artisans from years past (stay tuned for those next week), but I wanted to take a moment today to celebrate contemporary Black artists and entrepreneurs on Etsy. From talented embroidery artists and print-makers to painters and jewelry designers, these must-see online shops are a great place to spend this weekend if you need some inspiration or want to add some beautiful new pieces to your home or wardrobe. I have a soft spot for enamel pins and this one from GRLTRBL is awesome. She sells a small but mighty selection of feminist pins and postcards right here.

We first visited Reuben Reuel of DEMESTIK New York back in 2013 and it’s been such a joy to see his stunning designs take the fashion world by storm. You can pick up one of his original pieces at his Etsy shop right here.

Charlotte at The Vintage Vogue is one of my favorite people in design. We got to hang out and chat during the In the Company of Women book tour in DC and I have such respect and admiration for her work and business. You can check out her home goods on Etsy right here.

Alicia Goodwin of Lingua Nigra creates stunning jewelry. Her hand-etched gold pieces are my favorite, but you can shop a wide range of her unique designs right here.

Designer Nasozi Kakembo not only has a beautiful home, she also has a beautiful home goods collection that we can’t get enough of. This butterfly chair with a West African indigo cover is my favorite. You can check out and shop more of her work here at Etsy.

Warm and cozy knitwear is a must this time of year and Chasten Harmon of Plush Armour makes stunning pieces she sells at Etsy. Each piece is colorful, fashion-forward and full of joy. You can shop more of her work here.

Speaking of colorful, I am smitten with these linoprints that Shadra Strickland makes and sells at Etsy.

If you’re looking for a pair of colorful modern earrings, Cathy Charles of My Moon Seeds has you covered. Her shop is dedicated to beautiful wooden earrings with bold graphic shapes.

These handmade lip balms are just some of the lovely (and sweet-smelling) skin and body care products that Odalis of Mint & Ocean Apothecary makes.

Kamilah of The Pink Locket makes a range of jewelry and small ceramics that celebrate strong women and inspiring phrases that motivate.

I love the bright colors that Tabitha Brown of ThePairaBirds uses in her geometric prints. This sunglass print is fantastic.

Tia Newton of More By oh Tia makes a bold collection of shirts, sweatshirts, and pins dedicated to Melanin, Blank Panther and Feminist themes.

Kalyn Johnson Chandler of Effie’s Paper on Etsy designs a bright and shiny range of stationery, mugs, and travel goods with strong statements and phrases.
