Nendo’s N01™ Chair Combines Japanese and Danish Design for Fritz Hansen

Nendo’s N01™ Chair Combines Japanese and Danish Design for Fritz Hansen

Iconic Danish brand Fritz Hansen collaborated for the first time with Japanese design studio nendo on a dining chair that combines both Danish and Japanese qualities. The N01™ chair has a minimalist feel yet it comes together like a complicated puzzle comprising 23 veneer and solid wood pieces. The chair falls perfectly into the Fritz Hansen family while pushing the boundaries when it came time to actually make it.

From Oki Sato, head of nendo:

If you sit on it, you will notice that this is a Fritz Hansen chair. If you live with it, you will realise that this is pure Japanese design.

The chair’s seat and back are made up of nine layers of veneer, resulting in its elegant curves that offer ultimate comfort. They’re paired with a base constructed of solid wood and then joined together in a way that makes it look as if they’re barely touching. Despite the delicate appearance of the joints, the chair is extremely strong and designed to be passed down through several generations.

The N01 chair is made at a Belgian family-owned wood manufacturer and then assembled by hand for its finished seamless look. It’s available in black colored oak, natural oak, and beech with optional seat cushions.
