I’ve lived in Iowa my entire life. It’s the definition of landlocked. It’s one of those states forgotten by the rest of the country — and it’s not uncommon to meet someone while traveling that asks if Iowa is the one with the potatoes (Idaho) or the one with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (Ohio). Iowa and the rest of the Midwest might be known more for agriculture, plains and the Great Lakes, but there’s a rich culture in Middle America that a lot of people miss. Each state is unique with pace of life, terrain, history and industry, and that’s worth celebrating.
One of the things I’ve always loved about home and studio tours on Design*Sponge is how each one gives a glimpse of life in a different part of the country. We get to see the lifestyles and design tastes of people from big cities, small towns and every place in between. I’m proud to launch this new D*S regional series with the Midwest, my beautiful and sometimes unappreciated stomping grounds. Each post in the series will feature homes we love from the states of specific regions, along with notable people who live or grew up there and why they love it. –Lauren
