For years, traditional hotels have used their grand interior designs to woo visitors and get press. Now that Airbnb and HomeAway have proven they have sticking power, those who use the sites to rent out their personal properties are doing the same. Some are even hiring professional decorators to make sure their space will stand out. Such is the case with Yemi Lawal, property developer and founder of Fresh Kidz Lets.
Blogger and decorator Sarah Akwisombe, whose Art Deco home we featured earlier this spring, worked on one of the latest Fresh Kidz Lets home flips. Not much to look at initially, the Essex, England flat Sarah designed now boasts her bold signature look thanks to some brazen choices. To help it stand out, she focused on decorating with show-stopping accessories like velvet sofas, patterned floors and that omnipresent shade of millennial pink.
While she’s proud of the final look, Sarah says the process itself was actually more rewarding than the outcome. As her first full-home redesign, the flat taught her the importance of sourcing well-made products, how to put herself in a client’s shoes, and (most importantly) just how much she loves decorating. Scroll down to see the before and after. Enjoy! —Garrett
