If there is one concept that seems to loom more heavily and ominously over our collective heads than any other these days, it’s this: Imposter Syndrome. Without a doubt, the single biggest question I get asked here at Design*Sponge and at Good Company is, “How can you overcome imposter syndrome?”
There isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer to something as complex as Imposter Syndrome (which is the feeling that you’ll somehow be ‘found out’ as a fake or fraud), but there are many ways to tackle, unpack and better understand these complicated feelings that we all face. So one of our goals in the new issue of Good Company was to share several different people’s feelings about this fear and how they’ve pushed through it.
One of those people was artist and designer Sarah Neuburger of The Small Object. She shared her story of getting a book contract and then realizing just how little she knew about the process and how much she would have to learn — quickly — to figure it all out in time. I love the playful way she tackles these big, real-time fears and how she learned to overcome them by asking for help from friends. Because for almost every creative problem, connecting with your community is one of the best solutions. Scroll down to read Sarah’s beautiful illustrated mini zine she made for the new issue of Good Company.
