Inside the Klementinum Mirror Chapel for Prague’s 2018 Signal Festival, design studio SOFTlab exhibited an interactive installation called Iris that uses responsive mirrors and LEDs to create an immersive experience guided by movement and sound. The mirrors form a circular enclosure that rotate in response to movement while the LEDs light up in response to ambient sound.
WATCH:
Iris manages to confuse, bewilder and excite curious viewers who come closer to examine the installation. The chapel’s intricate and ornate architecture and interiors are reflected in the mirrors, bending your focus in a vertically fragmented way. Ever-changing with its environment, the installation “bends, multiplies, and conflates light and sound” and “calls into question the lenses (both mechanical and cultural) that limit or expand our spatial experiences.”
