Even amongst the most passionate driving enthusiasts today, specialized driving shoes are a rarity, the niche segment of footwear designed for the ultimate in gas, brake, and manual transmission, fading faster than the memory of the clutch. More common these days are sneakers drawing inspiration by automotive detailing and silhouettes, primarily cars in the sports car segment. Which makes this trio of new all-terrain shoes – a collaboration between British brands Land Rover and Clarks – a rare example of footwear inspired by a more rugged segment of vehicles.
The Life.Limitless collection is composed of three shoe designs inspired by the silhouette and driving personalities of the Land Rover line: the CLR.51N offers the sleekest and most lightweight feel of the three, a slip-on design aimed at urbanists searching for a comfortable and casual shoe protected with a waterproof GORE-TEX Extended knitted upper (arguably most evocative of the Land Rover Evoque).
The middle CLR52.N shoe is designed to be equally comfortable on and off the beaten path, while the CLR53.N is a beefy number outfitted with the most rugged features of the collection, most suited for “off-roading” (aka hiking).
From Jason Beckley, Chief Brand Officer at Clarks:
We made sure the collection adheres to a set of three core design principles: Grip, Environment and Stability. Much like the Land Rover vehicles, the shoes are terrain appropriate, providing practicality and comfort in equal measure to the wearer, elements that are core to our DNA.
The collaboration between the two British brands isn’t just a one off, but the first of several planned for the next five years, with the inaugural Life.Limitless collection launched in fall with another upcoming round released this spring. The Life.Limitless collection will be available to purchase from Clarks.com and in selected Clarks retailers.
